Pre war dolls were made prior to 1945 and are generally dolls made from porcelain, bisque, composition, and also china head dolls. Popular dolls from this era are Shirley Temple, Patsy, Little Lady, Lettie Lane, and other antique and bisque dolls. Madame Alexander manufactured high quality dolls in this era such as Wendy and the Scarlett dolls, Dionne Quintupletts, McGuffy Ana, Queen Elizaebth and Margaret Rose dolls.
Also within this category are dolls known as Bed Dolls. Bed dolls were dolls that were placed on the bedsand in boudoirs and commonly became known as boudoir dolls. In the 1920-1940's these were dolls were available for purchase in stores and patterns were created for their clothing. These dolls are collectible and are hard to find in pristine condition. Althought the dolls are no longer sold in stores the patterns can be used to make clothing and patterns are available to make a cloth doll version of the boudoir doll.
